NASCAR Recently, 's new legal battle emerged with Legacy Motor Club concerning a charter acquisition. In early October, Legacy Motor Club filed a lawsuit against Rick Ware Racing at a court in Charlotte due to a contractual disagreement, as the team aims to secure an additional charter for the upcoming 2026 Cup Series season.
The two sides concurred, but Rick Ware Racing apparently wants to withdraw from the deal even though an agreement was made. The most recent NASCAR lawsuit, following the previous one, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports' struggle against the regulatory authority , has garnered a fervent defense from veteran NASCAR mechanic, crew chief, and currently the competition director for Rick Ware Racing, Brad Baldwin Jr., who has expressed dissatisfaction with how his boss has been portrayed.
Baldwin Jr. initiated his defense shortly after this. Door Bumper Clear In the Dirty Mo Media podcast that he co-hosts, the 58-year-old shared details about how Rick Ware supported him during his battle with cancer, which lasted more than six months.

What pains me is that they have openly shared numerous negative statements regarding Rick Ware," Baldwin stated. "I am here to assure you, feel free to talk however you wish about activities inside and around the racetrack and our efforts, yet let me make this clear: Rick Ware does not embody anything close to what they portray him as—a person, an individual, a father, or a family member.
It’s devastating to witness him having to endure this situation. When I was ill and suffering from cancer for about six to eight months, he cared for me. He provided financial support during my illness. That person is Rick Ware. He has put in tremendous effort to reach this point where he can sell a charter and ensure his family lives comfortably for the remainder of their days. He truly deserves it.”

Baldwin Jr. didn’t delve deeper into the lawsuit but proceeded to share the insights Ware imparted regarding being a Cup Series owner following his decision to sell his team in 2016. “It’s my fault for lacking the courage he demonstrated; I shouldn’t have rushed to sell mine,” Baldwin stated. “Eventually, I reached a breaking point where dealing with everything became too much. The political turmoil was overwhelming. Interacting with individuals turned sour as well. Worst of all, constant betrayals from others made continuing unfeasible.”
I can’t handle it. This person has endured all of this continuously, and I have no idea how they managed to do so. They stay quietly behind the scenes, managing their affairs, securing comfort for themselves and their loved ones throughout their lives. It’s their choice, and they deserve every bit of it since they chose this path. Understand, I would advocate for Rick Ware and anyone else because this isn’t about Rick Ware alone.
In 2025, Rick Ware Racing plans to field just one vehicle in the Cup Series, which will be piloted by Cody Ware. According to legal documents, the organization is characterized as being "financially constrained and incapable of competing effectively at the Cup Series level." In the previous year, Rick Ware had reasonable success when Justin Haley was driving for them prior to his move to Spire Motorsports.
