ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – All lanes have reopened in Conyers after a significant amount of diesel fuel was spilled onto the roadway due to a vehicle collision early Wednesday morning.
The Georgia Department of Transportation reported that as of 5:31 a.m., State Route 20/State Route 138 intersecting with Sigman Road in Conyers was closed because of an accident involving two cars and a fuel leak of 100 gallons of diesel.
The incident apparently involved a frontal crash between a tractor-trailer and an automobile. While reports indicate that people were injured, details about the severity of these injuries have not been disclosed.
By 7:28 a.m., all lanes have been reopened. However, hazmat teams remain present at a neighboring gas station.
The traffic lights also failed in the region, hence portable stop signs have been put in place, as reported by GDOT.
GDOT states that emergency personnel are present at the location, and drivers are advised to seek an alternate route to bypass significant holdups.
It is anticipated that the lanes will be cleared sometime after 8 a.m.
