The situation is sizzling for the high-end car marque Genesis. Recently, this South Korean automotive company reported its most successful opening quarter on record. Despite several rival brands experiencing growth due to luxury consumers trying to circumvent possible tariff increases, Genesis outperformed them all. Not even their nearest rivals could match Genesis’s performance during this period. G70 A sedan, which falls into one of the less popular car categories and is speculated to be phased out soon, is managing to maintain its popularity as the company expands further.
Genesis Continues Massive Growth
In March 2025, Genesis dealerships in the U.S. recorded 7,107 sales, bringing their cumulative figure for the first quarter to 17,505 vehicles sold. These numbers fall short compared to industry giants like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. Even when measured against more closely matched competitors such as Lexus and Cadillac, they still lag behind; however, they have surpassed Infiniti’s performance.
However, focusing on Genesis at this moment probably isn’t about that. What matters more is their observation of a 20% rise in monthly sales and an impressive 19% boost in quarterly sales compared to last year. While BMW and Mercedes-Benz experienced negligible changes in their sales figures, Audi’s numbers dipped, and Lexus reported only a minor uptick—Genesis witnessed expansion, which stands out significantly as the marque has only recently been established. unveiled what appears to be production-ready concepts This will place the brand into an entirely new market segment.
Last month, the G70 sedan achieved 1,005 sales, bringing the quarterly total to 2,375 units sold. This performance ranks it as the company’s third best-selling model. Although sales dipped marginally by 15 vehicles compared to the previous period, they remained above projections. Notably, this was particularly impressive considering the ongoing shift of consumer preference away from sedans towards sport utility vehicles.
To what extent does this downturn affect other models? Audi’s A4 experienced only 403 sales in the opening quarter—a decrease of 84 percent. Similarly, the A5 witnessed an 14 percent drop. Mercedes did not specify individual model figures; however, considering they mentioned that GLC sales multiplied twofold yet overall “core segment” growth remained at merely eight percent, it can be inferred that C-Class Sedan sales plummeted. At BMW, the 3 Series saw a decline of 11.7 percent.
In context, the G70 is performing impressively well. This is particularly notable for a vehicle that, until as recent as 2023, was not expected to perform so strongly. it wouldn't last for more than a year or two When questioned during a recent Genesis press conference regarding their plans for an accessible model at the base level of their range, Marc Choi, who serves as the Chief Product & Safety Officer for Genesis, stated that discussions are ongoing concerning the potential introduction of a second-generation G70. While there is significant interest internally in bringing out another version of the G70, Choi clarified that the current strategic focus leans towards maintaining exclusivity and luxury rather than competing against their affiliated brands. Additionally, he mentioned that the emphasis now lies on enhancing brand value and financial performance over increasing sales volumes—even though offering a less expensive alternative could be appealing.
SUVs Remain the Top Choice, with Magma Not Arriving Just Yet
Certainly, Genesis SUV sales continued to outperform sedan sales within the U.S. market. In this period, the GV60 EV experienced a doubling of its sales, reaching 320 units for the month. GV70 rose by almost 1,000 units to reach 2,553 (including an additional 337 electric vehicles). Meanwhile, the GV80 saw sales totaling 2,474 units across both its coupe and SUV versions.
Plans are being developed to enhance the sales of not only the G70 but also the complete range of Genesis models through what’s called ‘Magma’ performance. Magma is set to be introduced soon. Genesis performance brand Speaking with the press, Genesis officials confirmed their intention to introduce a high-performance Magma variant of each model series in the coming months—similar to how Mercedes provides AMG models and BMW offers M versions.
As Genesis intends to adjust the degree of aggressiveness in the Magma appearance according to the type of vehicle, the G70 compact sedan might turn out as the most thrilling — a Korean rival to the M3 would be quite an impressive car, making us eager for the possible introduction of a next-generation G70.
