A cherished bicycle store is set to reopen in Peninsula.

A fire in late February destroyed Eddy's Bike Shop along Main Street.

It took several hours for firefighters to put out the blaze. Ultimately, the historical building was completely destroyed.

The store was shut down when we arrived, undergoing refurbishments in preparation for the upcoming bustling spring and summer seasons.

The store was a favorite spot for tourists visiting Cuyahoga Valley National Park, located in a charming structure near a frequently cycled section of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.

Eddy's Bike Shop declared on Monday evening that they plan to resume rental services on Friday.

"The previous spot couldn’t be preserved, but wonderful folks in Peninsula assisted us in finding a new location that we think will suit local cyclists perfectly," the bicycle store shared on social media.

The newly opened store is located at 1655 Mill Street West in Peninsula, close to where it previously stood.

History of the Ancient Eddy's Bicycle Store Building

The documents from Summit County indicate that the previous 4,000-square-foot residence of the bicycle store was constructed in 1893.

Situated on an eastern cliff above the Cuyahoga River near the State Route 303 bridge and adjacent to the tracks used by the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, this building has housed several establishments throughout approximately the last century such as Garvey’s Saloon, Scotty’s Place, Millie’s Inn, Old School Ties, Peninsula Bridge Antiques, and Century Cycles.

Starting from the 1990s, Century Cycles made this location their base until they shut down operations in 2024, at which point Eddy’s Bike Shop assumed control of the prime space.

Mark J. Price was involved in preparing this report.

The article initially appeared in the Akron Beacon Journal. Eddy's Bike Shop announces a new Peninsula location following the destructive February fire.
